“Great record. Wonderful music with a very diverse repertoire, played flawlessly. You can hear the spirit and mutual respect the three musicians have for each other and the music. These guys have a history to be sure.”

“Quando la musica va al di là delle note, delle armonie e del ritmo, si trasforma in esperienza di vita, in qualcosa che è molto di più del piacere fisico dell’ascolto. C’è l’avventura, la ricerca ma c’è anche il cuore. C’è rabbia e amore. C’è l’urlo ma c’è anche il canto. Questi tre splendidi musicisti ci raccontano il loro Essere Umani. Grazie.”

Released on February 16, 2015, These Human Beings opens with Sgobbio’s explosive “Through Piat”, evoking the rhythmic propulsion of 90’s drum n’ bass with a dynamic sensibility of experienced jazzmen. “Baldwin”, “Lo Viatge”, and “Path Man” highlight the trio’s suite-style approach to composition and find Vernizzi at home on both tenor and soprano saxophone. Traditional conventions are demolished in “Jersey Zombies”, when Sgobbio and Wight deconstruct a laid back hip-hop groove into compulsive waves of rhythmic dialogue. Having no bassist allows Sgobbio the freedom to manipulate harmonies and intervallic structures. Vernizzi’s “First Minute of Inception” and “Melan” unveil a Steve Reich influenced minimalist concept of shifting melodic fragments and light, airy textures. The album closes with Wight’s spoken word on “Changing World”, a spiritually haunting and introspective view on humanity that was originally conceived by the drummer’s father, the late singer-songwriter David Wight.
